Aranmula kannadi is a special mirror and a distinguished piece of handicraft. It has many interesting features attached to it. It is made of metal, instead of glass unlike the usual mirror. There are many myths and stories related to its making and even in keeping. Aranmula is a small village located on the banks of river Pampa in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. Only a single extended family is involved in the mirror making. They follow secret formula for its making, which is transferred from one generation to another. Possession of Aranmulakannadi is considered to be auspicious and it is part of many rituals.There are different shapes available.Shangu or conch was the symbol of royalty. It was used to mark royal authority. Aranmula Kannadi embedded in conch shaped brass body is a beautiful handcrafted mirror which makes its possession a real pride.
